Hey… You! Do you want a work from anywhere job?
I know you do. I want that for you too.
But I also want to be real with you… Getting a remote job is not a sprint… it’s a half marathon.
Or in straight language… it takes time, and you can’t rush it.
This is not a bad thing, but sometimes it can feel overwhelming, and discouraging.
Because the truth is, running a half marathon isn’t something you just do.
It takes training, time, and patience. But it can be one of the most rewarding things you can imagine.
So today, I want to give you 3 ways to shift your mindset into “training” for getting a remote job:
Practice Every Day
Running a half marathon requires you to exercise everyday.
Some days you just need to run. Some days it helps to lift weights.
And some days you just need to stretch and rest.
Getting a remote job requires you to put in the work everyday, too.
Some days you need to look for jobs and companies. Some days you need to improve your CV.
And Some days you need to build relationships with hiring managers.
Never stop practicing.
You Are Your Only Competition
It doesn’t feel like this though.
Most of the time it probably feels like you are competing with 1000 people.
This is a trap. Getting a remote job is always going to be a competition with yourself. Your mind will give you reasons to not put in the hard work, and possibly even stop all together.
This isn’t different than running a half marathon because most of the time, your biggest competition is your mind telling you to stop running, or to slow down.
In addition, remote jobs worth doing are looking for you to fit. And fit is so much more than your salary or your experience:
It’s your match with their culture
It’s your passion for the work they are doing
It’s your industry knowledge
It’s the effort to show you can add value
None of these things have to do with other people.
Get In Shape
Okay, this might sound funny, but here’s the thing:
You’re probably not in shape to get the most out of your remote job search.
And that’s okay. It’s normal.
Being in shape means:
Having a personal brand that you express through creating content on LinkedIn every week (even better, every day!)
Having a strong CV that you can easily customize ready to go
Optimizing your LinkedIn profile to get hired
Building your network of connections on LinkedIn
Just Keep Running
No matter what, you need to keep pushing forward. Never lose hope. You can, and will, get a remote job with the right effort, time, and patience.

Great article. Begin with the basics. I really liked what you wrote at the beginning of your article: "Know that I believe in you, and I’m grateful that you showed up to read today."
It's very encouraging. Thanks
