Prepare For A Remote Job in 2023 (Part 1)
Do These Things Now To Increase Your Chances Of Getting A Remote Job In The New Year
Job hunting season is over in 2022. If you haven’t got the remote job you want by now, there’s almost no chance you will.
And that’s okay because job hunting season 2023 is just around the corner. See, this is one of the longest hunting seasons about 11 months. And the targets, new jobs, are easier to catch if you set yourself to preparing well in the month off.
So if you are looking for your first, or your next, remote job, here are the things you should absolutely be doing in the next few weeks.
Decide What You Want
You want a job.
You want a remote job.
You want a remote job in x role.
Great, now get even more specific.
What industry?
What company stage? (Start up, scale up, enterprise)
What kind of culture?
The more clear you get about these now, the easier the next few steps will be.
Get Your Mindset In Order
Switching jobs is not a small thing. It’s in the top 5 biggest transitions of most people’s lives, including you.
Get your head around that. It should become one of your 3 BIG priorities for 2022.
Don’t have 3 BIG priorities? Maybe you have 10 normal sized ones, or none at all.
Whatever the case, commit to getting yourself down to 3 priorities, and make finding a new job one of them. Then, promise yourself that any time you are working on getting your new job next year, you won’t let other things become a higher priority.
Why 3 BIG priorities? That’s a story for another newsletter, but if you’re curious, Google “The Sunday Planning System”.
Make A List Of Companies and Target
Search out a list of companies you would want to work with, based on what you want.
Then identify the key people in the organization that you would be working with if you got the job you want at one of those companies.
Connect with those people on LinkedIn, and do what you can to learn about them and what they like.
When you start applying, you will REALLY stand out. And you might make a few friends too.
Preparation is 60% Of Getting A New Job
Laying the groundwork for yourself will make sure that when opportunities present themselves, you are ready.
There’s more preparation you can do, and I’ll share that with you in the coming days. For now, enjoy the rest of what is likely the last full work week for your whole company…
and start preparing!
