This Sunday Straight Advice To Get A Remote Job, a new weekly drop of 1 red hot tip on how to get a fully remote job.
You can expect these weekly at 5PM GMT +3. They contain the highest-leverage advice I have discovered on how to get a remote job.
Today, let’s take a look at one of the hottest industries for getting a remote job. While all industries offer remote work these days, this one has way more fully remote, work from anywhere jobs.
It’s also changing the world, and as such is WAY more beginning friendly as long as you show you are passionate about it.
Let’s take a look:
Industry: Gaming
Gaming is an industry that includes mobile gaming, desktop gaming, cloud gaming, and console gaming. It’s the most valuable entertainment industry in the world, generating more money than movies, sports, and film combined.
As such, there are A LOT of jobs in gaming, both industry-related jobs and specialized jobs. This is beautiful because it means just about any experience you have COULD be relevant to a gaming job.
For example, you could have a data analytics background and work as monetization specialist helping free to play games. Or you could be a UX/UI designer for a gaming SAAS company’s customer-facing product.
The opportunities feel endless.
How to Figure Out What Job You Want To Go For:
There are 2 excellent questions you can ask yourself to uncover which jobs you would want in gaming:
Question 1: How passionate can I be about gaming on a scale of 1-5?
If the answer is less than 3, you probably shouldn’t apply for jobs where you have to write about games, sell gaming-related products, or manage gaming communities. That’s okay, there are tons of other jobs that don’t require major passion!
Over 3? You are good to apply for just about any job.
Question 2: Am I interested in a technical or non-technical job?
Technical? Even if you don’t have the experience now, you can get it. Non-technical? That’s excellent, it means you have a much better chance of finding entry level jobs weekly.
How To Find Job Opportunities:
Visit https://hitmarker.net/jobs?remote=only. Look for jobs that say Remote (Anywhere). Apply.
Easy as that!
How to prepare for and apply for more non-industry specific jobs:
https://hitmarker.net/jobs/playco-engineering-manager-apac-733103
Here’s a job that could be considered “generalist” because it doesn’t mention anything about needing gaming experience.
And here are 5 steps to prepare for and apply for this job:
Identify 5 companies in the space you want to work for. I recommend looking at Hitmarker for 1 week and cataloging companies
Connect with at least 5 people in each company. I have talked in detail about this here.
Spend at least 1 week learning about the industry (if you are new, spend 2 weeks). For this, I recommend any publication from Steel Media Network, including but not limited to https://www.pocketgamer.biz, https://www.pcgamesinsider.biz, or https://www.blockchaingamer.biz. You can also check out the podcasts on this list: https://tinyhydra.com/games-industry-podcasts/. I personally recommend the first 2.
Tailor your CV for the positions you are applying for. If you’re not sure how to tailor a CV, you can comment here and I will give you some tips.
Check Hitmarker and the website of the companies you are considering applying for at least 2 times per week. When you find a position that suits you, apply!
How to prepare and apply for a more industry-specific jobs:
You’ll still want to follow the 5 steps above, but in addition, you’ll want to pick a specific type of job you want to go over and prepare accordingly.

Here’s an example of an industry-specific job. I’m going to walk you through how you could prepare for this job in 3 easy steps, but the process is generalizable.
Find a course that allows you to learn some of the specific requirements for the job. Here’s the perfect course for this job: https://www.udemy.com/course/unrealcourse/. PS: If you can’t find an industry-specific course, don’t worry. Focus on studying materials for free. For example, if you’re going for a content writing position, look at how existing content is written.
Create an independent project. In this case, that’s a multiplayer game, but for a game community manager, it could be a fan community where you share daily tips on how to play a game or fun screenshots/videos of the game.
Start sharing content (probably on Twitter and/or TikTok) about your project. Do this for minimum 15 days.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll be ready to apply!
